Linking Objectives to Priorities and Departments

The level below priorities is objectives. To address each establishment priority, one or more objectives are assigned to staff members to be completed by the priority’s end date.

Task:

From the main menu, go to development plan, from the drop-down down once again select development plan.
From the development plan page, select add objective.
Go to the Priorities tab and tick one priority for your new objective to be linked to.
Return to the Details tab and enter a description that supports the priority you selected.
Keep the default lead as yourself and leave the default start and end dates.
In the Success Criteria/Targets box, enter realistic targets for the objective.
From the Department dropdown, select the relevant department.
Open the Staff tab and tick the staff you manage who should be involved. (Staff with padlocks and all ticks have permission to access and update all Improvement Plan objectives and activities.)
On the Evaluation tab, add realistic evaluation text.
In the header, click Save to add your objective.
Confirm it appears in the full objectives list.

Accessing SPM Objectives from an Existing Objective

If you click on an objective description, a new screen will appear listing all activities linked to that objective. In the next section, we will look at activities and add one to this objective.

How to link performance management objectives to Development Plan objectives.

From the Development Plan page, click the pencil icon next to the objective you just added.
You will now see two additional tabs compared to when you created the objective: Evidence and SPM Objectives.
Note that these two tabs are currently empty.

Using the Performance Management Module

We will now switch to the Performance Management module to link a performance management objective to your new Development Plan objective.

Task:

From the left-hand contents menu, select My Staff.
Select the staff member you ticked against the objective you added a few minutes ago.
Ensure you are on the work area page of the current open review for the staff member
Select the Objectives tab.
From the header, select Add Objective.
Select SDP Objective as the Type.
Select your new objective from the dropdown list in the Option text box.
Notice that the text from the DP objective now displays in the Objective and Performance Criteria text areas.
Add an action and then enter passwords on the Staff Agreement tab.
Select Add.
